I am a Reader in Computer Science at City St George’s, University of London where I co-direct the Centre for Human-computer Interaction Design.
I am also lead the More-than-Human Sustainable and Inclusive Smart Cities (Mosaic) project, funded through a UKRI Future Leaders Fellowship. This project works with communities, industry and government to explore how smart technology and data can be harnessed to design and plan cities for humans and other species. I am interested in what “more-than-human” data visualisation could be, where we use and communicate data to support the wellbeing of humans and other species in the city. I am also interested in how this could be explored through a focus on multi sensory data (e.g. data physicalisation, or data smells), as well as different mapping data for multi species storytelling.
I am especially interested in creative design methods such as speculative design for data interactions and visualization. I co-edited with Marcus Foth and Rachel Clarke the book Designing More-than-Human Smart Cities- Beyond Sustainability, Towards Cohabitation (OUP), and together with Anton Poikolainen Rosén I edit the More-than-Human Design in Practice forum for Interactions magazine.
