Our planet. Decoded.

UKCEH has a long history of investigating, monitoring and modelling environmental change, generating evidence-driven solutions to complex environmental challenges. Their 600 researchers operate across scales, from automated sensing of biodiversity and ground water at individual sites, monitoring river flows, air pollution and species across the UK, through to global modelling of climate systems.

Data and digital technology are transforming UKCEH’s response to environmental challenges and their societal consequences. They curate and share a vast array of data from real-time sensor inputs to decadal trends – each providing different challenges to gain insights from data – and use their data for cutting edge environmental research with impact.

Communicating insights from a diverse range of empirical and modelled data is vital to what the organisation does, ensuring that they engage effectively with public audiences and transparently for evidence-based decision-making and policy in government and business.

The collaboration with Diverse CDT will allow UKCEH to develop innovative approaches in data science, data vis and data storytelling to meet the needs of its audiences.
