Dr Emmanuel Johnson is a Nigerian researcher, filmmaker and poet whose work examines African lived experience, diasporic identities and ideas of home. Alongside his films Becoming Nigerian, To Grow a Tree and Parallel Identity, his poetry book I Can’t Go Back to Sleep forms part of a wider practice built on lived experience. Across research and creative projects, he studies how people respond to personal events and situations and how these responses influence their lives. His work invites readers and viewers to consider the ways they have been affected by their own experiences.
