Aidan is a Reader in Visual and Analytic Computing who has been working in Information Visualization and Visual Analytics since 2006. His expertise is in co-designing, developing and implementing Interactive Visualization techniques to help analysts analyse data, particularly to support spatial and temporal analysis. This includes developing new types of visualization techniques, new types of interactions, helping interpret complex model output and ultimately demonstrating the value in considering data beyond high-level summaries in analysis.
His research remains aligned to his background in Earth Sciences and Geographic Information Science, working in application areas such as population geography, animal movement, transport and epidemiology.
He gets most satisfaction from applied work. His most current applied work is helping the UK railway industry develop more robust timetabling though visual analytics of agent-based model outputs.
