Ali Sarvghad is a Lecturer at City St George’s, University of London, Adjunct Faculty at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, and Co-director of the HCI-VIS Lab.
His research advances responsible, trustworthy, and inclusive data visualization by combining exploratory visual analytics, provenance-driven systems, privacy-preserving visualization, graphical perception, and AI-enhanced visual analytics. He designs and evaluates interactive systems that help diverse audiences explore complex data, understand uncertainty, and make better decisions.
His work has been published at leading visualization and HCI venues, including IEEE VIS, TVCG, CHI, CSCW, DIS, and EuroVis, and has received multiple Best Paper and Honorable Mention awards. Ali has supervised PhD, MSc, undergraduate, and independent-study students on projects spanning visual analytics, aging and visualization, differential privacy, AI-assisted visualization, civic decision-making, and public-interest technology. He welcomes students interested in building rigorous, human-centered visualization tools for real-world data, inclusive decision-making, and societal impact across sectors and application domains today worldwide.
