Dr Emmanuel Johnson is the founder of IL Visuals, a YouTuber, researcher and poet. At IL Visuals, he helps people put difficult thoughts, feelings and experiences into words through one-to-one sessions where people are given space to talk, be listened to and receive a written expression of what they have shared. He also creates YouTube videos that use film to think about life, meaning and questions we are all trying to make sense of.
His research has focused on lived experience, particularly the experiences of African students in UK higher education, and has used participatory film alongside qualitative research. Across his research, writing and video work, he has maintained a strong interest in personal experiences and the ways people understand and express them.
