Dr Marjahan Begum

Lecturer in Computer Science
A woman with long dark hair and a slight smile faces the camera indoors. She wears a dark top and a necklace, with a blurred background and another person visible behind her.

Dr Marjahan Begum is a learning scientist with a focus on computer science education and higher education research.

She has worked in City St George’s, University of London since 2021 where she has focused on improving the learning experience of Foundation year students. These students are mostly from the widening participation group who would otherwise find university level education a challenge.

Marjahan started a Women++group in City St George’s, whose aim is to address inequalities in participation of Computer Science staff and students. The group will:

  • address issues of women’s sense of belonging
  • provide mentoring support
  • conduct outreach to promote women role models; and
  • propose curriculum changes for a more inclusive CS education.
