My research sits at the intersection of Visualization, Visual Analytics, Human–Computer Interaction, and, increasingly, generative AI. I am particularly interested in how interactive visualization can improve communication between humans and AI systems, supporting richer forms of co-analysis that move beyond text-only dialogue.

Much of my work is interdisciplinary. I collaborate with researchers in domains such as biology and food policy, and with industry partners in areas such as energy decarbonisation, to understand how people use data to generate knowledge and make decisions. I then design, prototype, and evaluate interactive visualization systems that help them do this more effectively.

Through these collaborations, I aim to develop both practical tools and generalisable visualization techniques. My work blends computation and interaction, and investigates the principles that shape how people interpret, interact with, and reason from visual representations of data. Methodologically, I combine system design and prototyping with empirical research, including controlled user studies, eye-tracking, contextual inquiry, and qualitative evaluation.

I publish regularly in leading Visualization and Human–Computer Interaction venues. I have co-authored around 40 publications, including papers in IEEE VIS, EuroVis, IEEE Transactions on Visualization and Computer Graphics, CHI, and Nature Immunology, with several receiving best paper awards. I also regularly serve as a reviewer and programme committee member for venues including IEEE VIS, EuroVis, and the Symposium on Eye Tracking Research & Applications.
