Cagatay leads the Centre for Interdisciplinary Methodologies at Warwick. He is an interdisciplinary researcher with a background in computer science with specialisation in Data Visualization, Visual Data Science, Human-Computer Interaction and Human-Centred AI.
His research investigates the interactions between data, algorithms and people, and explores the role of interaction and visualization at this intersection. He designs techniques and algorithms that are sensitive to their users in various decision-making scenarios involving primarily high-dimensional and spatio-temporal phenomena and develops methods to study how people work interactively with data and computed artefacts.
Professor Turkay’s recent research increasingly looks into how data, algorithms and their visualizations play a role in the public realm and how this role can be leveraged sensibly and responsibly in ways that empower people.
