My research focuses on the quantitative assessment of dependability and security in software-based systems. A key area is evaluating fault-tolerant and intrusion-tolerant systems that use design diversity, where multiple diverse protection or end systems are combined to improve overall dependability and security. This concept is also described as layered defence, defence in depth, or defence in breadth.

This work often generates large, multidimensional datasets with many attributes and variables, some of which are well suited to machine learning for pattern detection and interpretation. However, human decision-makers usually remain central, such as security administrators selecting and configuring tools, or analysts reporting organisational threat levels based on emerging vulnerabilities, exploits, and attacks. High-quality visual analytics are therefore essential for supporting timely decisions under uncertainty. I would be happy to discuss relevant datasets, problem statements, and how visual analytics can support data-driven quantitative assessment in these applications.
