Jackie self-describes as deaf, dizzy and disabled, and as an atypical academic of working-class heritage. She is a Disability Inclusion champion and was named as one of the top 100 Disability advocates by The Shaw Trust.
She pioneered the award-winning Data Fellowship programme, which has placed 400 humanities students into around 80 organisations to develop their data skills through paid experiential learning.
Jackie is Emerita Professor of Statistical Literacy, Emerita Professor in Social Statistics, and the former Academic Lead for Disability Inclusion, all at The University of Manchester, UK. She is a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences and has been awarded a National Teaching Fellowship and Principal Fellowship by Advance HE, the UK professional body that oversees teaching and learning in Higher Education, collectively for her outstanding impact on student outcomes and the teaching profession in Higher Education.
