Sian takes a creative and innovative approach to her data visualization practice, and brings varied research experience to her PhD.
With an MASc (Masters in Arts and Science) degree in Data Visualization and influenced by her background in mathematics and statistics, Sian looks to combine her analytical and computational skills with her passion for design and innovation.
These distinctive perspectives and experiences allow her to create comprehensive data visualisations that can be applied to all stages of the data pipeline. Her work is guided by approaches in data feminism and humanism. Sian has a keen interest in using analogue methods with digital to allow deeper connections and engagement.
She is motivated particularly to collaborate with groups that have a focus on directly improving the world. Whether addressing societal issues and inequalities or climate and ecological concerns, through analytical creativity she seeks to make impactful, positive change.
Some of Sian’s recent work involves co-creating a web-based platform for visualizing climate data in collaboration with the University of Edinburgh. A poster describing this research was accepted to VIS 2025, where Sian presented the work.
